Coraline

Today I read Coraline by Neil Gaiman.

This story is full of adventures and what Coraline does seems like you are there having the adventure too.

My favorite characters are Coraline and the cat. I like Coraline because she is smart and brave. I like the cat because it is helping Coraline get her parents back from the evil with, her other mother. My least favorite characters are Coraline's other mother and father because they took Coraline's real parents and has taken the souls of the other children.

If I had to write the blurb it would be like this.

When Coraline steps through a little door she unfolds a new adventure. The house looks identical to her house but what happens there is completely different. Coraline discovers her other mother and father in the house and thinks they are great, because they give her lots of attentioand give her lots of yummy food. They want Coraline to stay with them forever so they can steal her sole.

Because I think this blurb gives some more of the story away and people might think it sounds more interesting. If I were Coraline I would not have followed the Circus mouse into the little door because it would be frightening. Coraline's other mother and father have black button eyes and wanted Coraline to let them sow buttons into her eyes.

I recommend this book for people who want a scary adventure. I rate it 100/100.

Diamante Poems

In class we are doing Diamante Poems. A Diamante Poem is when you talk about 2 subjects and put them into one. I did this Diamante Poem to describe Myst Island and Mechanical Age.

This is one I wrote myself.

They are called Diamante Poems because they are in the shape of a Diamante.

Myst

Calm, open

Rotating, relaxing, glistening
Library, forest, trees, beautiful

Decoding, trapping, frightening

Scary, water

Mechanical Age

Channelwood Poems

In reading groups we did Haiku poems. This is a voice thread of what my group and I have made. These poems are about Channelwood Age.

This one is the one I wrote myself. Big trees grow above.
They grow so high look up, up
They're big, I feel small.

Different Phases Of The Moon Explanation

There are 8 different phases of the moon. They are called, New Moon, Waxing Crescent, 1st Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Last Quarter and Waining Crescent. The moon changes every night. It takes 291/2 days to get around the earth.

The first phase of the moon is New Moon. It is hard to see the new moon because it is on the opposite side of the earth to the sun, this is because the earth is blocking the sun's light. That also causes High and Low tide because the moon and the earth are pulling the tides. That is called gravitational pull.

The second phase of the moon is Waxing Crescent. This is when the moon looks like it is getting bigger but it is only getting shadowed by the sun's light. It is also pulling the tides because the sun, earth and moon are almost all lined up in a straight line.

The third phase of the moon is First Quarter. It is half black and half white. The white half is the one that can be seen and it gets it's light from the sun. This is when the sun and the earth are in front of the moon, so that is why only half of it can be seen.

The next phase of the moon is Waxing Gibbous. That is when it is almost a full moon so it is close to half way around the earth. The moon is almost at the top of the earth, so if the black part of the moon was lined up with some land and the bulge around the earth was big then that would be high tide.

The fifth phase of the moon is Full Moon. The Full Moon is all white because the sun can get to all of it and the earth is not blocking it. This is when the sun moon and earth are all lined up.

The next phase of the moon is Waining Gibbous. People can only see three quarters of this phase of the moon because the moon is moving around the earth and the sun is shinning on it.

Next is Last Quarter. The Last Quarter is when only half of the moon is visible. It is also known as the Half Moon. At this point the moon has almost made a whole circle around the earth.

The last phase of the moon is Waining Crescent. This is when the moon has finished it's cycle around the earth. It is almost a New Moon again so it is almost all blocked by the earth and the sun is not shinning on even half of it. The tide is not as high when it is a Waining Crescent then when it is a New or Full moon because they are lined up with the bulge and the Waining Crescent is not.

The moon and the sun are very important because the sun gives us light and the moon gives us High and Low tide. The tides give us jobs like being fisherman and if there were no tides there would be no homes for the sea creatures and no sea food for us.

Basketball Blues

Today I read Basketball Blues by Thalia Kalkipsakis. This book is part of the Go GIRL! series.

My favorite Character is Angie because she got called a boy because she is so good at basketball then she quit because she got offended but then she realized that her team needed her so she forgot about that and went back to her team.

If I were Angie I would not have worried about being called a boy.

I recommend this book for girls.

I wonder what that man is saying in the book?
AAH!!! what is this? Someone HELP!!!!!
What is happening?

I think I have gotten allot better at doing descriptive writing.

The Go Girl Difference

I am reading the Go Girl Difference 2 Bush Babies.

So far it is great but I feel a bit sorry for Charlie because Casey kept on making fun of her.

It would be fun to join the Holiday Program that Charlie is going to with her friend Maddy because they get to do fun activity's like drawing monsters and art things like that.

Myst Island Picture Trail

I decided to do this picture trail to show you what Myst Island is like when I talk about it in my posts. I think it is a very fun game to play.

Fathers Day

For fathers day I made a wordle about my dad and what he likes and what he is. I also made a super hero dad. I made a super hero dad on the hero factory website. I made my dad like this because he is strong and tall and great. I love my dad and when I grow up I want to be just like him.

Prayer

Every morning when we get to school we do prayer, except for Tuesday mornings.

We have prayer to talk to god and ask him things like to look after our family and friends. Each week we change who is on prayer.

What we do is get a cloth and put some candles on it and light them.

Then we put rosary beads or stones on the prayer table, sometimes even the bible.

Then the people who are on prayer will play some nice quiet music and read the bible to us.

Please leave a comment and write a prayer on this post.

OUR FATHER

THIS IS THE OUR FATHER WE SOMETIMES SAY IN PRAYER.

Reading

In my class we do silent reading and we read books we get from the school library.

My class reads books like:

Hugo Cabret.

Andy Griffiths.

Go Girl!

100 Cupboards.

Animal books.

Car and plane books.

I think reading is good fun and it gets you thinking. Please leave a comment and tell me what books you have been reading.

Secret's Out

Today I read Secret's Out by Chrissie Perry.

I think this is a good book because Tamsin tells Casey's biggest secret that she hasn't ever told anyone before.

I feel sorry for Casey because all of her friends new her secret. It was funny when Casey was serving the lunch because when it was Dylan's turn to have his served Casey spilled it all over the floor.

I recommend this book for girls. If you want to know want to know Casey's secret you will have to read the fantastic book.

Selenitic Age

Today I played the computer game Myst.

Myst is a great game to play because it helps us with our writing. It helps us with our writing because if we hear a sound like birds and water through the door we will write a simile or some piece of writing about it.

These are some things I wrote today when I played it.

"I can hear water rushing past me as I walk up to the door way".

"I feel unsafe hear I want to go back to Myst Island".

Today I was in Selenitic Age getting the blue and red page to put into the red and blue books in the library.

There are different worlds including Myst Island that have many secrets to unfold. Myst is a very fun mysterious game to play.

Lunchtime Rules

Today I read Lunchtime Rules by Vicki Seggall. It is a part of a series of books called Go Girl!

My favorite character is Ant (short for Samantha) because people called her to small and slow to play her favorite game football, but she got over it because her librarian gave her a book about a famous tennis player. Ant did running training with her mum and at the school running carnival she got a ribbon for second place.

I think Ant is a very brave and kind person. I recommend this book for people who want to read a great book.

Sink Or Swim

Today I read a book called Sink Or Swim.

It is about a girl called Bec who was in a swimming class and her coach thinks she should join the junior squad. But that meant Bec would have to try even harder if she wanted to be the fastest in the class. She had a friend called Holly who was really nice to Bec like when it was the trials and Bec got nervous and came last. I think Bec was lucky because to get into the State Championships you had to come first in one of the trial races, But they needed one more contestant and they chose Bec. Bec tried her best and got a 3rd place medal and was very happy.

I recommend this book for people who like swimming and want an exiting read.

I LIKE LINE GRAPHS BECAUSE THEY ARE EASY TO DO.

I THINK MR ARCHIMEDES IS A GOOD BOOK TO TEACH YOU ABOUT SINKING AND FLOATING.

A Series Of Unfotunate Events

I am reading A Series Of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket.

I wanted to read it because I have seen the movie and it is great. It is about the Baudelaire children, Violet, Klaus and Sunny who's parents perished in a fire witch was started by an evil man named Count Olaf. The children firstly had to live with Count Olaf when their parents died but they had to go somewhere else because he parked the car in the middle of a train track when the train was coming. Next they had to live with Uncle Monty, he is a very nice welcoming man who lost his family in a fire as well so he new what it was like, but then Count Olaf killed him, to try and get to the children. Next the kids went with Aunt Josephine who is a very scared person, but Count Olaf killed her to, he did that by throwing her into a lake full of leeches. The only reason Count Olaf did all of that was to get the parents fortune they had left behind so that is why he killed their parents. My favorite characters are Violet because she can invent lots of things, Klaus because he is very smart, Sunny because she bites things and Uncle Monty because he is kind.

I really like this book and I recommend it for people who want a good but very sad read.
